Instant pot kidney beans - an easy way to cook the kidney beans. Red beans or red kidney beans are awesome protein-rich food for vegans.

And they are so easy to make in the instant pot, even if you haven't soaked them before cooking. Make this easy way instant pot red beans and you will forget the canned beans.

Kidney Beans aka Red Beans (Red Kidney Beans)

This is one of the best vegan proteins you will love to add to your menu. This can be added to the burrito or burrito bowl, fajitas, tacos, or simply with steamed rice.

So you can cook the kidney beans in the instant pot and freeze them for months for future use.

They should be cooked properly otherwise may cause digestive disorders like diarrhea, nausea, etc. Since they contain toxic phytic acid, you should either soak them before cooking or cook them properly. However, in the instant pot, the kidney beans are cooked properly even not soaked at all.

This recipe is a no soak kidney bean recipe made in the instant pot. Even you have not soaked them, the instant pot cooks the beans so perfect, soft like melt-in-mouth.

In case you have prior history of digestive disorder like flatulence, or any other intolerance to beans or legumes, you must soak them for minimum 8 hours before cooking. This will help in removing the antinutrients and toxic elements from the beans.

It's really easy and just dump and go instant pot beans where you don't need to do any stirring, sauteing, etc.

Ingredients You'll Need

Red Kidney Beans

Water / Veg broth- 1:3 ratio for unsoaked kidney beans

A pinch of salt (Skip if cooking with broth)

How to make the instant pot red kidney beans (no soak)?

It's an easy recipe. Wash and rinse the beans with warm water 2 - 3 times before adding to the instant pot.

Add water to the pot and add rinsed kidney beans and a pinch of salt. Salt is optional and can skip.

Close the lid and turn pressure valve to sealing.

Cook on manual pressure cook mode, high for 45 minutes. It will take around 8 - 10 minutes to come to pressure.

Wait for natural pressure release that might take 10 minutes.

Remove the beans from the excess liquid. Kidney beans are ready to use now.

How to store?

These are good to store in an air tight container for up to 3 - 4 day in the refrigerator. Also you can freeze them easily. To freeze, cool the beans completely and then transfer the beans to the freezer bags.

How much time it takes to cook red kidney beans in instant pot?

No Soak kidney beans take 45 minutes on high manual pressure cook mode. Let the pressure release naturally in 10 - 12 minutes. Also note it will take about 8 - 10 minutes for the instant pot to come to pressure level. So all together the task takes 65 - 70 minutes. However, soaking the beans will reduce the time to 10 minutes and 10 minutes pressure release, making whole recipe in 20 minutes. However, the soaking time should be 6 - 8 hrs.

Do you have to soak the kidney beans before cooking in instant pot?

You can soak the beans for 6 - 8 hrs or overnight. However, instant pot can cook the beans perfectly soft and melt-in-mouth evenif you don't soak them. The only difference will be the difference in cooking time. Also soaking makes the beans easily digestible by removing the toxic elements and anti-nutrients from it.
